Wilma Josephine "Jo" Grenert Jones, 87, died June 26, 2022, in Lakeland, Florida
Jo had been at Winter Haven Hospital for surgery, and she passed away surrounded by family and loved ones.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. "Skeet" Bennett (Barbara) of Lakeland, Fla., and Joseph A. "Jody" Grenert (Julie Elman) of Athens, Ohio; two beloved bonus daughters, Barbara A. Bennett and Jacqueline Jolynn Atherton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
She is also survived by her beloved companion and guardian, Holly, her 10-year-old Pomeranian.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack E. Garner, and Robert H. Garner.
Jo was born Nov. 25, 1934, in Brandon, Fla., to Alma B. and Robert D. Garner, and she lived in Polk County, Fla., most of her life. She was the longtime proprietor of the Garden Beauty Salon in Winter Haven. After retiring in 1985, she moved to Lakeland with her husband, Richard H. Grenert, who passed away in 1997. She later married Douglas Jones, who died in 2008.
Jo will be remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, a rock of support for her family, and a compassionate caretaker of all in need. Her strength and stubborn determination inspired all who knew her.
She will make sure the hairdos of heaven's angels are perfect.
Jo loved to travel, especially cruising in Alaska, and enjoyed gardening and tending her orchids. She was a first-rate country cook and savvy card player. Whether it was bridge, partnered with husband Richard, or penny poker, or Shanghai rummy, she always had "one buy left."
There will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
