In Loving Memory of William Roscoe Tomlin
March 12, 1940 – October 11, 2025
William Roscoe Tomlin, 85, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in his home in Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Born and raised in Lakeland, Roscoe was a man of charisma, brilliance, and boundless spirit. Though his given name was William, everyone knew him simply as Roscoe—a name that fit him like a glove. In old slang, “Roscoe” referred to a pistol, and while he wasn’t a gangster, he certainly had the fire, charm, and unforgettable presence of someone larger than life.
In the motorcycle world, Roscoe wasn’t just a personality, he was a legend. His love for bikes and hot rods was matched only by his passion for connecting with people. Whether at home, local venues, or at Roscoe’s World-Famous Chili Challenge, Roscoe had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and welcome. His quick wit, generous heart, and magnetic energy drew people in, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
Beyond the roar of engines and the thrill of the open road, Roscoe found peace on the water. Sailing was his quiet escape, a place where dreams drifted freely and the wind carried his spirit. One of his favorite lyrics captured that feeling perfectly:
“Well, it’s not far down to paradise, at least it’s not for me.
If the wind is right, you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see, believe me
It’s not far to never, never land, reason to pretend
And if the wind is right, you can find the joy of innocence again.
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see, believe me,
Sailing takes me away to where I’ve always heard it to be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me.
Soon I will be free”
Now, Roscoe—my dad—sails free for eternity, carried by the wind and guided by grace.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the open sea, every winding road, every roaring engine, and in the hearts of all who knew him. Godspeed, dad, Roscoe. Ride free. Sail far. You are forever loved.
