Shirley left this world holding the hands of her loving son and daughter-in-law,
David, and Robin Higginbotham. She was preceded in death by her father and
mother, Oliver Joseph "Joe" Custead and Ellen Flora Futch, and husband Ray
Spirnock. She leaves behind other family and friends that she loved and she left
behind a legacy of giving. Shirley and Ray were generous to a fault. Shirley had a
special interest in photography and photographed countless photos of wildlife
and nature throughout the Western and Southern United States. As a
businesswoman she excelled in real estate in the Orlando market when it was
booming in the 1970's with the advent of Disney World. She worked as a model
for major department stores in Orlando and in Lakeland. When she married Ray,
they developed a successful herbicide maintenance company that maintained the
rights-of-ways under transmission powerlines for rural electric companies in
Florida and Georgia. Shirley and Ray's home was always open to members of the
family who were in need and found a home for as long as they needed. They
enjoyed gathering for feasts with family and friends for holidays and Superbowls.
Many family and friends have shared her willingness and ability to listen to their
trials and offered sage advice. She was a Christian and looked forward to meeting
the Lord and members of her family who had passed on. She will be truly missed.
