Samuel Tanner Obituary

Samuel Lee "Sam" Tanner, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 8, 2024, in his hometown of Lakeland, FL, at the age of 70. He was born on November 21, 1953, to John Edward Tanner and Nancy Ruth Tanner (nee Anderson).

Sam is survived by his loving wife and partner in life of 47 years, Brenda Tanner (nee Scrogum), and their two sons, Christopher and Alexander Tanner, both of Lakeland, FL. He also leaves behind his siblings, Cynthia "Cindy" Walls, Randall "Randy" Tanner, and Timothy "Timmy" Tanner, along with a cherished niece, three nephews, and a great-nephew. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, who he remembered with fondness and love.

A proud veteran, Sam retired as a Sergeant First Class in the US Army. His 22 years of service as an 11 Charlie Mortarman was a testament to his bravery and commitment to his country. Colleagues and friends remember him as a good man and a wonderful father, whose leadership and camaraderie were as steadfast as his patriotism.
Sam's presence was a source of happiness to all who knew him. He greeted each morning with a whistle, a clear indication of the joy he carried within him. He had a love for the outdoors, as he was an avid hunter of deer and turkey. He took his sons hunting often when they were boys, creating memories that they will treasure forever.
Sam Tanner was a man who lived his life with a full heart, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Sam, we celebrate a life lived with honor, joy, and an abundance of love. His spirit will continue to live on in the stories shared by his family, the laughter that echoes in the places he frequented, and the quiet moments in nature where he found so much peace.
