Ronald Loflin Obituary

Ronald Gene Loflin, Lakeland, FL, passed away on February 1, 2020, at home with family. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 9, 1932, he was the only child of Alonzo and Mildred (Blue) Loflin.

After attending Arsenal Tech High School, he attended Butler University for a year and a half. He served in the U. S. Navy/Navy Reserve. Following that he was employed at Western Electric for one year and then bridged his service to Indiana Bell where he stayed until 1984. He finished his career working for AT&T Communications until his retirement in December 1988, having been part of the Bell system for 37 years.

After retirement, he and wife, Sherry began spending winters in Arcadia, FL and summers in Indianapolis. In 2001, they became permanent residents of Florida and in 2010 moved to Lakeland, Florida to be near Sherry’s mother.

He was married to Loretta (Baker) Loflin for 25 years. From this marriage were born Teresa Lynn Loflin and Michael Gene Loflin (Sally). He was predeceased by his parents, and both of his children.

In 1983, he married the love of his life, Sherry (Brannon) Loflin and also opened his heart to daughter, Becky (Cloud) Fellows (Patrick). He is survived by wife, Sherry, daughter, Becky and son-in-law, Patrick, daughter-in-law Sally (Sterling) Loflin and 4 grandchildren. Grandchildren are Chris and Timothy (Sarah) Loflin and Katie and Seth Fellows. He has one great grandson, Cylus Loflin.

Ron enjoyed life to the fullest. He delighted in teasing his family and playing pranks on his work friends and family members. He loved serving the Lord and was happy to help anyone in need. He was always quick to respond to the needs of others. He was a hard worker and had a good knowledge base to do almost anything. He worked happily at wood working projects and making stained glass items for family members.

He was a member of Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. He served as Trustee while he was able, and in previous churches had served as Treasurer, Trustee and the Board of the church.

He loved being retired and was able to travel to many places with wife, Sherry during their working and retirement years. Most of all, he loved to travel to see his grandchildren, and children. Family was so important to him.

Ron will be greatly missed by family and friends but after a lot of sickness the last few years he is now healed in the most wonderful way.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Light and Life Free Methodist Church, 5730 Deeson Road, Lakeland on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 pm. A second memorial service will be held for family and friends in Indianapolis on May 23 at 11:00 am, at Ritter Avenue Free Methodist Church 1645 N. Ritter Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
