Ray Britt Obituary

Ray Britt Sr., a beloved patriarch, family man, and cherished member of the Deland community, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on March 5, 1928, in Lakeland, Florida, Ray's life was marked by unwavering devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and an ever-present spirit of generosity.

Ray's early years in Lakeland laid the foundation for a life of hard work and commitment. As the youngest of eleven children born to Calvin Lee Britt and Mary Britt, he learned the value of family and community from an early age. Though his siblings and parents have predeceased him, the lessons they imparted remain a testament to their enduring influence.

Ray's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Edna Britt, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised a family of three sons, instilling in them the virtues of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Ray Britt Jr. (Carol), Timothy Britt (Julie), and Daniel Britt (Jackie) carry forward their father's legacy, each embodying the traits that Ray held dear. His love also extended to his four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Professionally, Ray dedicated many years of service to the American Cyanamid Phosphate mine, where his diligence and reliability were well-known and respected. His colleagues remember him as a man who always lent a helping hand and greeted everyone with a warm smile.

Beyond his work, Ray was an active and devoted member of the Griffin Baptist Church, where his faith was both evident and inspiring. His involvement in the church community was not merely about attendance; it was about forming lasting relationships and contributing to the spiritual life of all who knew him.

Those who knew Ray Britt Sr. would describe him as loving, generous, and thoughtful. He had a gift for making each person he encountered feel valued and important. His generosity was not just in material gifts but in the time and attention he gave to his family, friends, and community. He was the kind of man who remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and significant life events, always acknowledging them with a kind word or gesture.

Ray's thoughtfulness extended to every aspect of his life. He was a man who listened more than he spoke, offered wisdom when asked, and provided comfort during times of need. His presence was a source of stability and strength for those around him.

As we bid farewell to Ray Britt Sr., we reflect on a life well-lived—a life filled with love, commitment, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but his legacy will continue to shine brightly through his family and the countless lives he touched.

We take solace in the knowledge that Ray's life was one of purpose and impact, and we celebrate the time we had with him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the values passed down, and the love that he fostered in the hearts of all who cherished him.

Ray's life will be honored and remembered in a private ceremony attended by his family and close friends. As we lay him to rest, we hold onto the memories and the indelible mark he left on our lives, grateful for the time we had with such an extraordinary man. A Graveside will be held on February 26,2025 at 11:00am at Griffin Cemetery 2337 Sleepy Hill Rd, Lakeland, FL 33810.
