Pauline Thorn Obituary

Pauline Marie Thorn, passed away on December 31, 2023, at the age of 88, in her lifelong home of Lakeland, Florida. Born on April 4, 1935, in Polk County, Florida, to the late Frank and Annie Mae (Taylor) Dees, Pauline was an example of love and faith throughout her life.

Pauline was the beloved wife of Ralph Thorn for 30 years until his passing in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Dees, and her sisters, Bertha Richardson and Lorene Carter. Her legacy continues through her children: Lloyd Thorn, Janice McClelland, Danny Thorn, and Frank "Joey" Thorn, her six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her aging canine companion, Dimbo, who was a source of joy and comfort in her later years.

A lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, Pauline's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She served her church community with the same love and dedication she bestowed upon her family. After retiring from her role as a cafeteria lunch lady with Polk County Schools, Pauline continued to embody the spirit of service by caring for the elderly. She was the backbone of her family, a nurturing presence, and a natural caretaker whose selfless acts of kindness were felt by all who knew her.

Pauline had a love for fishing, yard sales, and thrift stores, always on the lookout for treasures that held stories of their own. An animal lover at heart, her compassion extended to all of God's creatures, and her gentle spirit was evident in how she cared for them.
Those who knew Pauline would describe her as loving, selfless, and nurturing. She had a way of making everyone feel important and loved, and her presence was a comforting reminder of the goodness in the world. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart." Pauline lived by these words, touching the hearts of many with her kindness and compassion.

Pauline's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of faith. She was a cherished member of her community, a loving sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be held dear in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched, young and old.
