Matthew William Gross, 95, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on February 11, 2023.
Matthew was born on February 26, 1927, in Highland Park, NJ to parents Matthew George and Selma Maria Gross (Offenberger).
Matthew served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a proud veteran. He worked more than 60 years for Cement Products and Supply Company as the head of sales in the window and door department. He was a member of the Kathleen High School Booster Club, a Boy Scout and Cub Scout troop leader, and he coached little league baseball for the Dixie League. He was an expert at building things and took pride in remodeling the house. He enjoyed going on deep-sea fishing excursions with his company and loved to travel all over the country, stopping to see friends and family along the way. When Matthew was in his 80s, he traveled solo to Europe as well as Okinawa Japan, and Pearl Harbor. Matthew was a loving and kind man who was always there for his children. Very organized, stern, and willing to teach his children all he knew, he was the best father anyone could ask for.
Matthew was preceded in death on March 14, 1999, by his beloved wife, Doris A. Gross (Foshee). He was also preceded by his father and loving stepmother Margaret, and step-sister Marie.
Matthew is survived by his children, Steve (Anita) Gross and Karen (Mike) Johnston, his grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Bixler, Jamie (David) Jones, Christy Baker, and Joe (Crystal) Knight, and great-grandchildren, Logan, Cody, Ian, Casey, Kylo, Taylor and Emily.
