Mary Coomes

Mary Coomes, 89, of Lakeland Florida passed away on August 21, 2023.
Born in Springfield, Kentucky, Mary was born on October 13, 1933, to Leslie and Elizabeth (Murphy) Greenwell.
Mary was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lakeland.
Mary worked as a delicatessen clerk for Publix from where she retired. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was known for her delicious desserts. She was an attentive and generous mother who was willing to help everyone. She was emotionally supportive and would do anything for her family as her family was the most precious to her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William W. Coomes, her husband of 22 years until he passed in 1980, and her siblings, John Greenwell, Joe Greenwell, Betty Ballard, and Rose Yeager.
Mary is survived by her children, William (Victoria) Coomes, Rose (Jack) Rex, Susan (Michael) Elrod, and Mary Coomes (Paul Gilmore). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her brother Bill Greenwell and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 Am, Friday, August 25, 2023, at Lanier Funeral & Cremation Services, 717 Griffin Rd. Lakeland, Florida 33805. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park 4620 US 98 S, Lakeland, Florida.
