Marieetta Butler Obituary

Marieetta "Joyce" Butler, a woman of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in her hometown of Lakeland, Florida. Born on February 12, 1940, to Murray and Ida Dees, Joyce lived a life marked by adventure, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her loved ones.

Joyce's journey began in the warmth of Lakeland, where she grew up surrounded by the affection of her parents and one sister, all of whom preceded her in death. Her life was further enriched by her marriage to the love of her life, James Butler, who passed before her, leaving a legacy of love that she cherished until her last breath. Joyce was also preceded in death by her two children, Candy and Frankie.

Despite the losses she faced, Joyce's spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to embrace life with open arms. Her granddaughter, Lisa Davis, and great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Brextyn, and Ryleigh Davis, were the lights of her life. She found joy in every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and laughter in equal measure.

Joyce's interests were as colorful as her personality. She could often be found with her eyes to the skies, watching airplanes soar, a symbol of the boundless adventure she adored. Car rides were not just a means of travel but an opportunity for exploration and companionship. Her love for dining out was matched only by her affection for her cherished plants, the vibrant poinsettia, and the sunny yellow bells, which she tended with the utmost care.

Bird watching brought the tranquility of nature to her doorstep, and she relished the simple pleasure of observing the dance of feathered friends. Indoors, she was often entertained by the timeless excitement of old game shows and the rugged charm of westerns, her laughter and commentary a soundtrack to many family gatherings.

Joyce's friendships were a testament to her loving nature. She cultivated relationships with a generosity of spirit that drew people to her, and her circle of friends became an extended family, bound by mutual respect and affection. Her caretakers, too, became part of this cherished network, drawn in by her warmth and the selfless love she so freely gave.

Above all, Joyce's life was a portrait of love in action. She loved without reservation, her heart as expansive as the Florida skies under which she was born and under which she took her last breath. Her adventurous soul, selfless heart, and loving nature will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

As we bid farewell to Marieetta "Joyce" Butler, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. Her memory will be treasured, her stories retold, and her presence deeply missed. Joyce's journey on earth has concluded, but the impact of her life's voyage will endure forever in our hearts.
