Marguerite (Midge) Luke Cox passed away on Oct. 6, 2022 at the age of 103 in Lakeland, FL. She was born on March 28, 1919, daughter to Mary and Guy Luke in Boston, MA. She grew up in Boston, attended Boston public schools and was a graduate of Boston State Teachers College. She taught for two years in the Boston Public schools. On Dec. 30, 1942 she married Gene Cox at which time she was no longer able to continue teaching. It was against the law for a married woman to be a teacher in the Boston public school system. Midge and Gene moved to Holbrok, MA, in 1954 where they would reside until 1986. During that time, Midge was active in many civic activities including the Garden Club, Girl Scouts, the Historical Society, the public library and served as a representative to the town meeting. In 1986, they moved to Lakeland, FL, where they resided for the remainder of their lives. She was an avid swimmer and, in fact, swam for half an hour the day after her 103rd birthday. They were also excellent dancers having won the Senior Olympics Gold Medal for Ballroom dancing on several occasions. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gregory and sister Josephine, her daughter, Carol White and grandson, Harvey White. She is survived by her brother, Guy Luke (Braintree, MA], son, Ken (Beth) of Williamstown, WV, grandchildren Teresa White (Jacksonville), Brendan (Dahlia) Cox (Boston), Meaghan Bryce Cox (Columbus, OH), KC (Trish) Cox (Stafford, VA), Katie Cox (Josh Mayer) Tampa and eleven great grandchildren. Midge and Gene danced and swam through a magical marriage of 73 years. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
