JoAnn Miller Sawyer

JoAnn Miller Sawyer, 87, passed away on July 28, 2023.
JoAnn was born on March 14, 1936, in Charleston, SC to parents John and Mary Etta (Ricks) Milller.
JoAnn was a cheerleader for and graduate of Kathleen High School. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lakeland where she was very involved, singing in the choir and for many weddings and funerals. She was a homemaker, a great mother, and the disciplinarian of the family. She attended every one of her children's sports activities. She was an avid bowler with a high game of 291. JoAnn was the glue that kept the family together. She loved to decorate for Christmas, hosting all of the holiday dinners and get-togethers and making sure everyone was welcome. She was a funny lady with a great sense of humor. She will be sorely missed.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Margie Allen, William and James Miller, Mary Willis, and Carolyn Tyrrell.
JoAnn preceded her loving husband of 67 years, Gordon Carl Sawyer, who passed less than 24 hours later after his battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her children, Brenda (Steve) Walter, Wayne (Betsy) Sawyer, and Robyn (Michael) Williams, grandchildren, Jennifer Kennedy, Jamie (Casey) Babb, Scott (Natasha) Sawyer, Keri Sawyer, Bryce Williams, and Brooks Williams, great-grandchildren, Brianna Pierson, Emily Pierson, Ellie Green-Sawyer, Evan Sawyer, Connor Babb, Kennedy Babb, and Kellan Babb, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received Friday, August 4, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 715 Cornelia Avenue Lakeland, FL 33815.
Funeral services for JoAnn and Gordon will be held Friday, August 4, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. Burial will follow at Socrum Cemetery 3125 W Socrum Loop Rd. Lakeland, FL 33810.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honor of JoAnn may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
