JAMES "JIM" LAWHON, age 84, of Polk City, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2022.
A native of Tampa, Florida, he was the son of the late James and Idalyne Lawhon.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Catharine, his daughter, Melissa (Carmela) Whisenant, son, James Lawhon III and daughter, Gururas (NamJoti) Khalsa.
Jim was a member of the Kathleen Lions' Club and a lifetime member of the NRA and Duck's Unlimited. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served in the US Army Reserves, Special Forces for 21 years. He was a commander of the National Guard and considered a man of great honor and a true Patriot. He loved serving his country and got his first tattoo at age 80 to commemorate his prideful service. He was a purchasing agent for Seminole Electric Coop, and several engineering firms. In 1989, he became business partners with his loving wife, Catherine and started the remodeling and design company, "Catherine's Classic Kitchens, Inc". He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader of history books. He thoroughly enjoyed reading about WWII, ancient history, and the famous explorers. He was the proud pet grandfather of two rescued labs, and a litter of Australian Shepherd puppies. He was an honorable man and an amazing storyteller who went on many adventures with Catharine and lived a long, prosperous, and interesting life. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at 3:00pm, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Kathleen Lions Club, 6010 Central Avenue NW, Kathleen, Florida.
