Gloria Maria Cocco, known for her love and faith, left this world on November 28, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on September 2, 1937, in La Vega, Dominican Republic, she brought light and joy into the lives of all who knew her. Gloria passed away in Lakeland, Florida, marking the end of an era filled with love, education, and adventure.
A devoted wife to the late Gerardo R. Cocco Sr., with whom she shared 43 years of marriage, Gloria was a cherished mother to Gloria (Forrest) Cocco Taylor, G. Cocco (Joel B. Kaye, MD) de Moya, and Gerardo R. Cocco Jr., who served as her primary caretaker in her later years. She is survived by her siblings Martin de Moya, Maritza de Moya, Ernesto de Moya, and Teonil de Moya. Her legacy continues through her loving siblings, children, grandchildren; Jessica Taylor Gruhn, John B. Taylor, Caroline Cocco Taylor, and Matthew Ruiz Diaz Cocco, and great-grandchildren; Brooke, Carson, Sophia, and Dean, who were the pride of her life.
Gloria's passion for education was evident through her long-standing career in K-12 education, where she wore many hats with grace and dedication. She held a Bachelor of Arts in Education and was an active member of the Resurrection Catholic Church and their RCCW group, embodying the spirit of service and community.
Her adventurous soul led her to explore the world, traveling to numerous countries and embracing diverse cultures with her daughter Cocco. In her younger days, she found peace in gardening, and throughout her life, she cherished the moments she spent with her family. Gloria was an avid reader and could often be found lounging on the beach in the Dominican Republic, basking in the sunlight.
As we bid farewell, let us recall the words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7). She was a loving, adventurous, and faith-filled woman who approached life as a grand adventure, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.
We honor Gloria Maria Cocco, a woman whose life was a testament to the power of love and faith, and whose memory will forever be a guiding light to her family and community.
