Fannie Jean Carver (nee Hobbs) was born in Belle, West Virigina, on August 22nd, 1934, and passed on August 12th, 2025, in Winter Haven, Florida, 10 days short of her 91st birthday. She was predeceased by her nine siblings and her husband, Ervin James Carver.
She is survived by her three children (Tamara Lynn Osborne, Carver Alexander Johns, James Matthew Carver) and their families, which includes her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jean was a woman of impassioned interests, myriad talents, and fierce determination. She raised her children while working a farm, earned a nursing degree alongside her daughter, and worked in the medical field for 20 years. She also sang, painted, crocheted, baked, cooked, made jewelry, wrote books, played videogames, watched movies, and so much more.
Jean was a storyteller. She self-published five novels, but anyone who met Jean soon knew that those books were merely the tip of an iceberg of tales. Whenever a moment presented itself, she would lean forward to regale her listeners with stories of Appalachian mysteries, deep family lore, or hilarious hijinks of more recent times. Jean's stories live on through her children and her grandchildren, but no one will be able to share those stories the same way she could.
Jean's faith in God sustained her in her final days. Her last words on this planet spoken to her daughter and grandson were about how much she loved her family and how much she loved Jesus. She told them, "I'll be running in the fields with Jesus," and her loved ones await the day they can see her again and hear stories from her all about it.
