Dorothy Thompson Obituary

Dorothy Louise Thompson, passed away on January 13, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 93. Born on April 19, 1932, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Truman and Irene Palmer, Dorothy's life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and unwavering devotion to family.

Dorothy's journey through life was marked by the cherished union with her late husband, Ruben Thompson, with whom she shared just shy of 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a legacy of love and family, a legacy that continued to flourish through their children and grandchildren. While Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Lord, and her son-in-law, Morris, her nurturing spirit lives on through her surviving children: Ellen Croft and her husband Ernie, Linda DeWitt, David Thompson and his wife Denise, Daniel Thompson and his wife Kristin, Jonathan Thompson, and Joseph Thompson.

Dorothy's love encompassed her grandchildren, Andy Lord, Christopher Lord, Brandi DeWitt and her husband John, Donald DeWitt, Ashley Moore and her husband Scott, Jessica Oliveras and her husband Erik, Derek Westbrook, Emily Jenkins and her husband Ryan, Nicholaus Thompson, and Kyle Thompson. Her great-grandchildren, Jared Lord, Christopher DeWitt, Madison Moore, Cameron Moore, Elijah Oliveras, Riley Oliveras, Ezra Jenkins, and Isla Jenkins, also felt the warmth of her affection and the wisdom of her guidance.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, often finding comfort in books, it reflected her calm and thoughtful nature. She was a caring and devoted mother who showed her love through patience, support, and always putting her family first. Though she was a quiet person, her kindness and warmth were deeply felt by those around her.

As we bid farewell to Dorothy Louise Thompson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey completed with grace and dignity. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, a reminder of the beauty of a life dedicated to love and family. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will forever be entwined with those she loved so dearly.
