Doris M. Gray

Doris Gray, age 96, of Lakeland, FL went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2022. A native of Coffee County, Alabama, she was the daughter of John and Katie Smith. She has left behind her only daughter, Connie Wren and her husband Paul, grandson John and his wife Kim and great grandchildren, Brendan and Veronica. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings except her sister Magdalyn Turner and her husband Jerry.

Doris was of the Baptist faith, loved the Lord and attended Bible Baptist Church of Lakeland regularly. She was a homemaker and loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers and caring for her family. She was a school nurse and lunch room lady at Combee Elementary School. She also spent time as a caregiver in an assisted living facility until she retired. She loved to sew and lovingly made all of Connie's clothing growing up.

When presented with the decision, Doris unselfishly chose to give her daughter a life of memories, faith and love and did so until the time came for Connie to return the love she received all those years. She lived a long life full of love. She sacrificed and chose unselfishly to care for the life of her daughter, Connie. They shared a mother/daughter bond that was orchestrated as a gift from God because of unusual circumstances. For their good & God's glory.

God's plan and purpose carried out as His Word declares........
"For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11)

The family will hold services privately. Doris will be laid to rest with her husband, Otis, at Florida National Cemetery.
