Betty Qualls Obituary

Betty Clayton Qualls, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 86. Born on January 20, 1938, in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Betty's life was a tapestry of vibrant experiences and heartfelt service, woven with the threads of passion and dedication.

Betty's early life in Kentucky set the stage for a journey that would take her to unexpected heights—both literally and figuratively. In her younger years, her adventurous spirit led her to the center ring of the circus, where she dazzled audiences as a performer, mastering the web and tightrope with grace and poise. This chapter of her life was a testament to her fearlessness and her ability to find balance, both on the tightrope and in life.

Later after earning her nursing degree, she embarked on a career that reflected her innate desire to care for others. Her compassionate nature shone brightly in her work as a nurse, where she provided comfort and healing to countless individuals.

Betty's artistic soul found expression through watercolor painting, a pursuit that earned her accolades as an award-winning artist in the Florida Keys. Her artwork, much like her life, was filled with vivid colors and fluid beauty, capturing the essence of her surroundings. During her time in The Keys while in her late 50s, Betty's radiant beauty was recognized when she was crowned the most beautiful woman on the island, a title that only scratched the surface of her inner elegance and charm.

Her love for her family was immeasurable. She was a devoted mother to Kimberli Murphy and the late Michael Clayton McCray. Her legacy also continues through her adored granddaughter, Brooklynne Murphy, and her great-grandchild, Oakley Murphy. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Denver C. Qualls and Bessie Qualls, and her sister, Jayne Peterson.

In her later years, Betty's nurturing spirit led her to support those in recovery, offering guidance and hope to those seeking a new path. Her dedication to this cause was a reflection of her boundless empathy and her belief in second chances.

Betty's love for her feline companion, Venus, was yet another facet of her caring personality. Her home was filled with the warmth of their shared affection, and Venus was a constant source of comfort and joy.

Betty Clayton Qualls will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy is one of passion, artistry, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her life was a journey of love, art, and adventure, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
