William Mayo Obituary
William Eugene Mayo, Sr., 93, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on October 26, 2018.
Born in Chattaroy, West Virginia, on August 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Roy and Verna Montgomery Mayo.
William is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Betty R. Mayo; children, Karen J. Barrow (James) in Baker, FL, Kevin J. Mayo (Chris) in Post Falls, ID, and William E. Mayo Jr. (Lila R.) in Crescent City, FL; siblings, Joe Bob Mayo (Ruth) in Alabama, Gail Damron in Kentucky, Jimmy Mayo (Carol) in Alabama, and Susie Weems in Alabama; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
William was a WWII and Korean War veteran with the U.S. Navy. He worked at a Naval Base in Portsmouth, VA, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Camp Lejeune, NC.
The family will be having a memorial gathering on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 starting with a visitation from 12:00-1:00PM in the chapel at Lanier Funeral & Cremation Services, 717 Griffin Road, Lakeland, FL 33805. The memorial service will follow at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shriners Hospital in William’s honor. Donations may be made by mail to 2900 N.
